Follow Lawal Amodu On:

Lawal Amodu is the Programmes Coordinator at the African Centre for Leadership, Strategy & Development (Centre LSD), where he oversees initiatives that strengthen civic engagement, democratic governance, and institutional reform across Nigeria and the West African sub-region. He coordinates national and subnational projects under the Open Government Partnership (OGP) framework with support from the MacArthur Foundation and oversees environmental justice efforts, including the Niger Delta Cleanup initiative funded by the Global Green Grants Fund. His work spans open governance, youth civic inclusion, and natural resource governance, particularly in the solid minerals sector.

With over 17 years of experience, Lawal has delivered impactful programs including constitutional reform efforts that contributed to the First Amendment of Nigeria’s 1999 Constitution. He has advanced youth political participation in Bayelsa, Edo, and Delta States — efforts that led to one of his trainees becoming a minority leader in the Delta State House of Assembly. He has also contributed to natural resource governance reforms in Ekiti, Ebonyi, and Taraba States, and led high-impact national dialogues on energy transition, mining, and security.

Lawal’s leadership extends to election observation missions in Nigeria and Liberia, as well as programmatic work on gender-based violence and educational advocacy in Northern and Southern Nigeria. His earlier roles include Programme Intern at Global Rights, Nigeria; Programme Officer at the Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD); Secretary at Citizens Forum for Constitutional Reform (CFCR); and Programme Officer at the West African Civil Society Forum (WACSOF), where he helped shape strategic plans and foster stakeholder collaboration for democratic reform.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts in History from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (1998) and a Master of Arts in History from the University of Jos (2006). A Member of the Institute of Strategic Management, Nigeria Chartered (ISMNC), Lawal is active in regional civil society networks focused on governance, civic space, and sustainable development.

A passionate advocate for inclusive governance, Lawal is driven by a commitment to equity, justice, and citizen-led accountability. His work continues to inspire civic consciousness and institutional change across the region.
