This inspiring Book of Stories showcases the powerful outcomes of Centre LSD’s Youths Can Lead project in Bayelsa State, funded by the Ford Foundation. Through intensive capacity building over two years, the project trained 88 young men and women (45 males, 43 females) to become agents of political and social change in a region historically sidelined in Nigeria’s democratic landscape.
The publication captures 42 compelling transformation stories—documenting how previously apolitical youths became voters, political party members, community organizers, elected officials, and social entrepreneurs. It reveals how beneficiaries, empowered with leadership skills and civic education, contested elections, secured political appointments, and established over 50 income-generating ventures and civil society organizations.
From mobilizing communities for peaceful elections to founding grassroots advocacy groups and women-led political movements, these youths have reshaped the socio-political climate of Bayelsa State. Each story stands as a testament to the potential of strategic civic engagement, mentorship, and youth empowerment.
This book is a vital resource for civic educators, policymakers, and development practitioners committed to youth inclusion, political participation, and governance reform. It is a call to invest in young people—not as future leaders, but as the drivers of transformation today.
