See More ResourcesThe 2017 Annual Report captures a pivotal year of quality improvement and consolidation for the African Centre for Leadership, Strategy & Development (Centre LSD). Building on its strategic pillars of leadership, strategy, and development, the Centre expanded its reach across Nigeria—particularly through its regional offices in the Niger Delta, North West, and North East—and deepened its interventions in governance, environmental justice, anti-corruption, electoral reform, youth political participation, and natural resource management. Major highlights include sustained leadership training programmes, promotion of the Open Government Partnership (OGP), policy advocacy on solid minerals governance, and civic engagements in the Niger Delta and Northern Nigeria.
Key projects in 2017 included: environmental monitoring in oil-producing areas, youth leadership capacity building in the Niger Delta, election observation in Anambra State, and civic-driven campaigns on transparency and accountability. The Centre also engaged actively in policy dialogues, media campaigns (e.g., #CleanUpNigerDeltaNow, #DoMiningRight), and legislative advocacy, particularly around the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) and environmental law reform. The report details significant partnerships, strategic communications, organizational growth, and over 40 documented interventions. With strengthened systems, staff capacity, and financial management, the year positioned Centre LSD for continued impact and national relevance.
