WIFE Project Field Story | Awka, Anambra State
In this episode of our WIFE Project Impact Stories, we share the inspiring journey of Mrs. Gloria Nwafor, an ILI Fellow, WIFE beneficiary, and Coordinator of the CAPCADF PWDs Centre LSD (Awka) Multi-Purpose Cooperative Society Ltd. Through Centre LSD’s Livelihood Support Training for Women in Frontline Extractive Communities (WIFE) project, Mrs.
Gloria received a ₦1 million grant to expand economic opportunities for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in Anambra State. With this support, she:
• Formed a 12-member PWD cooperative serving as an umbrella across 21 LGAs
• Established a revolving loan scheme for members earning below ₦36,000 monthly
• Supported small businesses in foodstuff trading and petty trading
• Helped transition a sachet water hawker into a kiosk business
• Invested in a cooperative vegetable farm now cultivating over 300 bags of pumpkin leaves, pepper, and other vegetables
The WIFE Project demonstrates how cooperative models can promote dignity, financial inclusion, and long-term resilience in frontline extractive communities.
This video is part of Centre LSD’s ongoing documentation of impact stories across Nigeria.
