Uqua-Eket Women Are Building Financial Discipline Through Cooperative Savings | WIFE Project

Videos By Centre LSD Feb 25, 2026

On February 13, 2026, we visited the Uqua-Eket Centre LSD Multipurpose Cooperative Society, coordinated by Dinah David under the WIFE Project in Akwa Ibom State.

Registered on October 21st, 2025, the cooperative has grown into a strong financial support system for its members.

At a glance:

  • 15 members (14 women, 1 man)
  • Meets every Sunday
  • Members contribute between ₦500 – ₦2,500 weekly

Loans already supporting firewood, POS, fish, crayfish, and foodstuff businesses

Real Stories from Members

1. Mary David (Fish & Seafood Trader) Accessed ₦50,000 to strengthen her business. Today, she saves weekly and has financial backup for emergencies.

2. Ekajoe David (Firewood Business) Started his business through the cooperative loan and now saves ₦1,000 every Sunday, building financial discipline for the first time.

3. Deborah Israel (Foodstuff Trader) Now saving consistently despite previously struggling with spending habits.

4. Ekaette David (Mrs.) Testifies to learning to save for the rainy day instead of spending all income.

This cooperative is not just about loans, it is building a culture of savings, accountability, and economic stability among women in Uqua-Eket.

?There is a growing call to increase the loan fund so members can access up to ₦300,000 to expand their businesses further.
