How Women in Igwuruta Are Growing Their Businesses Through Cooperative Support | WIFE Project

Videos By Centre LSD Mar 01, 2026

On our recent visit to Igwuruta – LSD Cooperative Society, Rivers State, we met inspiring women entrepreneurs who are transforming their businesses through collective savings and access to cooperative loans.

Under the coordination of Dr. Happiness Ntuenibok, the cooperative continues to strengthen women’s financial stability, discipline, and enterprise growth.

1. Omaonu Helen – Rice Farmer

With support from the cooperative, Helen increased her rice production significantly by purchasing improved seed rice, fertilizer, and farm inputs. She now saves consistently and is calling for mechanized farming equipment to further expand her production and milling capacity.

2. Ihunda Gift – Hair Stylist

Access to cooperative loans helped her stock up on hair attachments and beauty supplies during the festive season, boosting her profits. She is interested in training on bookkeeping and customer relations to strengthen her business management.

3. Obi Canister – Wholesale Drinks

Now able to buy in larger quantities, increasing profit margins and building savings. He seeks training in bookkeeping and business management.

4. Ifeyinwa Abraham (Mrs) – Nurse & Trader

Expanded her ogbono trading business and increased sales volume. She is looking forward to further capital to grow her enterprise.

5. Gift Edet Eyo – Provision Store Owner

After a health setback that affected her business, the cooperative helped her restart. Today, she runs a stronger business with structured savings.

6. Chinedu Sharon – Perfume & Liquid Soap Producer

Moved from drop-shipping to owning stock and added liquid soap production to her business line, increasing revenue streams.

Across Igwuruta, women are not just accessing loans, they are building financial discipline, expanding businesses, and strengthening household stability.

? The cooperative currently serves 20 women and continues to call for:

  • Increased capital for expansion
  • Training in financial literacy and bookkeeping
  • Digital tools to improve business operations

This is grassroots economic empowerment in action.
