The Etinyin-Abasi Centre LSD Multipurpose Cooperative Society is made up of 17 members using cooperative loans to grow small businesses and create sustainable livelihoods.
Through access to affordable loans, members are expanding existing businesses, starting new income-generating activities, and improving their household income.
Here are some of their stories:
• Mrs. Nkoyo Bassey Abiyala runs a provision shop. With her loan, she purchased a POS machine, enabling online transactions and boosting sales especially during the Calabar Festival period.
• Mrs. Affiong John Asuquo, a salon owner, used her loan to stock hair relaxers, weavons, and other materials. Her business now records higher sales.
• Mr. Michael Charles invested in buying and reselling foodstuffs, earning a profit of ₦50,000. He has also started a POS and perfume business.
• Ms. Grace Emmanuel Udene, previously a full-time housewife, used her loan to start a baking business and now earns steady income.
• Mrs. Mary Otobong Sunday expanded from selling only watermelon to selling multiple fruit varieties in larger quantities, increasing her earnings.
• Mrs. Abba Selina, involved in beach marketing, diversified from selling only dry crayfish to also selling dry fish and palm oil, leading to higher income.
The cooperative is coordinated by Mrs. Attah, who disbursed ₦45,000 to each of the 17 members, repayable within six months, alongside bi-weekly member contributions. #WIFEProject #CentreLSD #CooperativeImpact #EconomicEmpowerment #SmallBusinesses #CommunityDevelopment
