On January 6, 2026, we visited the Ikang–Ita Centre LSD Multipurpose Cooperative in Bakassi LGA, Cross River State, coordinated by Grace Bassey (ILI & WIFE).
The cooperative has 11 members (4 male, 7 female), with loans already disbursed to 5 members engaged in fish selling, tailoring, and palm oil businesses. Beneficiaries report increased profits, improved household income, and reduced financial pressure.
Meet some of the beneficiaries:
1. Nkoyo Bassey Enong – A fish seller who expanded her business through cooperative support and expresses deep appreciation for the opportunity.
2. Bernard Cletus Okon – A tailor who accessed a ₦100,000 loan, boosting profits for his business and household. He hopes for increased loan access to scale further.
ILI Fellowship Impact – 30 individuals were trained, and 15 were empowered with improved pepper seedlings. While some produce for family consumption, others farm at commercial scale.
One standout story is Madam Arit Asuquo Effing from Esighi Community. Her pepper farm now sustains her family, supports her grandchild’s school fees, and even allows her to help neighbors.
This intervention is strengthening livelihoods, improving food security, and reducing financial burdens across households in Bakassi.
