A dynamic digital library and central knowledge repository designed to amplify learning, inspire action, and drive development across Africa.
See More ResourcesThis training manual was developed by Centre LSD as part of the Youths Can Lead project, aimed at building the political capacity of young Nigerians in the Niger Delta--particularly in Edo, Delta, and Bayelsa States. Supported by the Ford Foundation, the manual serves as a comprehensive curriculum for preparing youth to actively participate in democratic governance and leadership.
Structured into thematic modules, the manual provides foundational knowledge on Nigeria’s political system, governance structures, electoral processes, political party operations, civic responsibilities, and campaign strategies. It blends theoretical insight with practical tools--such as role play, simulations, and community mapping--to cultivate critical thinking, political literacy, and ethical leadership.
Special emphasis is placed on breaking systemic barriers such as age discrimination, patronage politics, and financial exclusion, while promoting inclusive participation for women and marginalized groups. The manual also explores values-based leadership, advocacy, and the importance of youth-led reform movements.
Used widely in civic training workshops across the region, this manual continues to serve as a transformative tool for mobilizing the next generation of leaders who are bold, accountable, and committed to building a more just and democratic Nigeria.
This publication is ideal for political educators, youth mentors, civil society organizations, and institutions supporting democratic development and political inclusion.
