It evaluates two key areas: emergency measures and environmental remediation. The findings reveal that while some efforts have been made, such as pilot remediation projects, water reticulation assessments, and community sensitization, most emergency measures are incomplete or delayed, and critical infrastructure like potable water supply and toxic waste management remain unaddressed.
The report highlights concerns around HYPREP’s project management, transparency, and the lack of strategic planning and community engagement. It recommends urgent reforms, including improved stakeholder coordination, capacity development, financial sustainability, and the establishment of oversight tools like a comprehensive KPI system. Designed for civil society, policymakers, and environmental monitors, the scorecard is a tool to ensure accountability and progress tracking in one of Nigeria’s most important environmental restoration efforts.
