Side by Side Movement for Gender Justice Nigeria Strategic Plan (2025–2029)

Publications By Centre LSD Mar 18, 2024

This strategic plan outlines the vision, direction, and priorities of the Side by Side Movement for Gender Justice, Nigeria for the period 2025–2029. Building on the foundation of interfaith collaboration since its inception in 2018, the strategy reflects a deepened commitment to transforming gender norms, enhancing faith-based advocacy, and institutionalizing gender justice across all levels of Nigerian society.

The document sets forth the movement’s long-term ambition: to establish inclusive, equitable communities where gender justice is normalized through the leadership of faith and traditional actors. It presents a bold, structured roadmap to scale its influence, strengthen institutional frameworks, and catalyze systemic change.

Key Strategic Pillars:

  1. Faith-Led Advocacy & Norm Change – Amplifying theological and rights-based narratives to dismantle gender injustice.
  2. Movement Strengthening – Enhancing the capacity, structure, and sustainability of Side by Side Nigeria across all states.
  3. Strategic Partnerships & Alliances – Deepening collaborations with policymakers, civil society, religious institutions, and feminist actors.
  4. Evidence & Learning – Leveraging research, monitoring, and storytelling to influence and adapt strategic approaches.
  5. Policy & Legislative Engagement – Driving advocacy for gender-responsive laws and equitable policy implementation.

Cross-Cutting Priorities:

  • Intersectionality (with focus on youth, persons with disabilities, and internally displaced persons)
  • Localization and community-led transformation
  • Accountability to women, girls, and marginalized groups
  • Integration of digital and media tools for advocacy

Grounded in values of Dignity, Justice, Faith, Love for Humanity, and Integrity (DJ-FLI), the strategy emphasizes the importance of sustained faith-based leadership and the use of moral authority to dismantle patriarchal systems.

This plan is more than an organizational roadmap; it is a declaration of intent to shift Nigeria’s cultural, legal, and moral compass toward gender equity over five years.
