This publication captures the transformation journey of young people in Edo State under the Centre LSD’s “Youth Can Lead” project, supported by the Ford Foundation. Focused on building the political capacity of youths across Nigeria’s Niger Delta, this volume documents the compelling stories of 74 trained youths, 19 of whom contested elections in 2019—with 18 emerging victorious—and others receiving political appointments or launching impactful ventures.

From inspiring narratives of first-time candidates overcoming fear and apathy to stories of young entrepreneurs and community mobilizers, the publication showcases how structured leadership training can radically shift civic participation. Through these firsthand accounts, the report reinforces the urgent need to empower youth with the knowledge, tools, and confidence to lead change and contribute meaningfully to democratic governance.
