Using a qualitative approach, it explores the vulnerabilities faced by women and girls, emphasizing their exposure to extreme weather, food insecurity, poor access to clean water, and limited participation in decision-making. Women’s and girls’ roles in agriculture and water collection make them especially susceptible to climate stress, while flooding in Benue and desertification in Kano compound existing social and economic inequalities.
The findings reveal a clear connection between climate disruption and increased gender-based violence, education dropout, health issues, and poverty. Despite the existence of informal coping mechanisms, limited access to climate information, the absence of targeted policies, and inequitable resource distribution hinder women’s adaptive capacity. The report calls for gender-sensitive climate interventions and inclusion in policymaking to ensure resilience and justice for the most vulnerable.
