WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY 2026: CENTRE LSD REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY AND CLIMATE JUSTICE
As the world commemorates World Environment Day 2026, the African Centre for Leadership, Strategy & Development (Centre LSD) joins the global community in calling for urgent and collective action to protect the environment and secure a sustainable future for present and future generations.
A statement by Monday Osasah, Centre LSD Executive Director, said environmental challenges such as climate change, pollution, deforestation, biodiversity loss, and unsustainable resource exploitation continue to pose significant threats to livelihoods, public health, food security, and economic development across Nigeria and Africa. These challenges underscore the need for stronger leadership, effective environmental governance, and responsible stewardship of natural resources.
At Centre LSD, environmental sustainability is an integral part of our commitment to promoting good governance, social justice, and sustainable development. Through research, policy engagement, capacity building, and stakeholder collaboration, the Centre has supported initiatives aimed at strengthening environmental governance, enhancing climate resilience, and promoting sustainable development practices.
The Centre recognizes that environmental degradation disproportionately affects vulnerable communities and that addressing these challenges requires inclusive policies, accountable institutions, and active citizen participation. Sustainable development cannot be achieved without protecting the ecosystems and natural resources upon which communities depend.

On this World Environment Day, Centre LSD calls on governments, the private sector, civil society organizations, development partners, and citizens to work together to advance environmental protection, support climate action, promote sustainable consumption and production, and invest in green and resilient development pathways.
As an organization dedicated to leadership and development, Centre LSD remains committed to supporting policies and actions that foster environmental sustainability, climate justice, and a more resilient future for Africa
