The African Centre for Leadership, Strategy & Development (Centre LSD), with the support of the European Union and UN Women, under the Spotlight Initiative to eliminate violence against women and girls, shall Friday September 16, 2022, commence a series of townhall meetings with paramount rulers, village heads, religious leaders and key community leaders in Obanliku and Odukpani LGAs of Cross River State on eliminating all forms of violence and harmful practices against women and girls in the state.
The townhall meeting will serve as a medium for addressing the people of Obanliku and Odukpani on harmful social norms, gender stereotypes, and cultural practices that pre-dispose women to violence. The Centre will also use the avenue to distribute copies of the newly passed Violence Against Persons Prohibition law by the state and educate participants on its provisions.
A statement signed by Mr. Vincent Dania, Programme Coordinator at the Centre, said the objective of the meeting is to work with the relevant non-state institutions to enshrine gender equitable social norms, attitudes and behaviours at community and individual levels to prevent harmful practices and violence against women and girls in the focal LGAs and beyond.
