THIRD ANNUAL OTIVISM LECTURE TO EXAMINE THE STATE AND DEVELOPMENT OF NIGERIA

The Otivism Movement is set to host the Third Annual Otivism Lecture on Sunday, 6 September 2026, at 12:00 p.m. in Abuja, with the theme, “Otivism, the State and Development of Nigeria.”

The annual lecture provides an intellectual platform for critical reflection on the ideas, philosophy, and practical contributions of Otivism, a body of thought rooted in social justice, ethical leadership, democratic governance, citizen empowerment, transformational leadership, and sustainable development, anchored in the life and work of Dr. Otive Igbuzor.

The lecture seeks to promote informed dialogue on the challenges of state-building and national development while advancing practical and values-driven ideas for building a just, inclusive, and prosperous Nigeria.

This year’s lecture will examine the character and capacity of the Nigerian state, the quality of governance, and the roles of leadership and active citizenship in advancing national development. It will also explore pathways for accelerating Nigeria’s transformation through accountable institutions, responsible leadership and public policies grounded in shared values and the public interest. The 2026 edition of the lecture will coincide with the 63rd birthday of Dr. Otive Igbuzor, whose life and work continue to inspire conversations around leadership, democracy, social justice, and sustainable development in Nigeria.

The event will also feature the public presentation of Dr. Igbuzor’s latest book, Radical Sermons, and Liberation Theology. The book presentation is expected to provide an opportunity for participants, scholars, development practitioners and members of the public to engage with the ideas and perspectives presented in the publication. The Otivism Movement invites scholars, civil society actors, policymakers, development practitioners, young people, members of the media and other stakeholders interested in Nigeria’s democratic and developmental future to participate in the event.
