See More ResourcesThe African Centre for Leadership Strategy and Development (Centre LSD), on the Side-by-Side Movement for Gender Justice scale up project, in collaboration with the Ministry of Justice and Public Order, Benue State, today, Wednesday, 23rd October 2024, commenced the process of onboarding Benue State onto the Nigerian Sexual Offenders Register. and capacity strengthening of the Humanitarian Tracking and Monitoring Team, as well as the Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) Prevention, Advocacy, and Response Committee in Benue State.
A press statement, by the project focal person Side-by-Side Movement for Gender Justice, at the Centre, Mr. Essien Nyong emphasized the importance of these efforts in enhancing the ongoing fight against gender-based violence in Benue. He highlighted that the trained stakeholders will be responsible for managing the state’s Sexual Offenders Register whose development and hosting process supported by Centre LSD, is currently ongoing.
Centre LSD is organizing these capacity-building sessions to enhance the knowledge of the Humanitarian Tracking and Monitoring Team and the SGBV Prevention, Advocacy, and Response Committee for the effective management of the Sexual Offenders Register. This training will also assist in monitoring cases of humanitarian trafficking and addressing issues related to SGBV within the state.
Mr. Nyong noted that the Side-by-Side Movement for Gender Justice is a global initiative that brings together faith and traditional leaders, along with people of faith, as advocates for gender justice. The movement has been actively working since 2018 to promote these goals.
