Key Stakeholders Engagement on the Elimination of Violence Against Women and Girls in Cross River State.

As part of the activities lined up for the implementation of the Centre’s Male Engagement Project for Gender Based Violence, Sexual & Reproductive Health & Rights and Harmful Practices (GBV/SRHR/HPs)Reduction in Cross River state under the Spotlight Initiative, The African Centre for Leadership, Strategy & Development (Centre LSD) shall Monday February 3rd, 2020 commence engagement with traditional leaders, Religious leaders, youth groups, and key stakeholders in Obanliku, Calabar South, and Calabar Municipal LGAs of the State. Specifically, the target communities earmarked for the engagement include; Sankwala, Utanga, Amana, Becheve, Ikpai-Ohom Qua, and Efut Abua.

A press statement released by the project officer, Mr. Vincent Dania, stated that the objective of the targeted engagement is to get the buy-in of duty bearers and community gate keepers for the project and pave way for the establishment of Community Network of Men Leaders to End Violence Against Women and Girls. The network will serve as advocacy platforms to promote gender equitable norms, attitudes and behaviours, in relation to Women and girl’s sexuality and reproduction.

The Spotlight Initiative to eliminate Violence Against Women and Girls is an initiative of the European Union and the United Nations aimed at supporting a Nigeria where all women and girls, particularly the most vulnerable, live a life free from violence and harmful practices (see https://www.spotlightinitiative.org/).
