Centre LSD Builds the Capacity of Rights Defenders in Calabar on Forming Collectives and Taking Action to End Violence Against Women & Girls and Harmful Practices.

Forming Collectives and Taking Action to End Violence Against Women & Girls and Harmful Practices.

The African Centre for Leadership, Strategy and Development (Centre LSD) shall Tuesday September 15 2020, commence the capacity building of identified women and girls’ rights defenders in Calabar to better engage with traditional and religious leaders to advocate for the prevention and respond to issues of sexual & gender based violence, harmful practices in Cross River State.

A statement signed by Mr. Vincent Dania, Senior Programme Officer of the Centre, stated that the objective of the training is to form identified women and girls’ rights defenders in Calabar into a formidable force whose collective actions will be amplified by leveraging on each other’s strengths.

The training is part of the activities in the implementation of the Male Engagement component of the Spotlight Initiative Project in Lagos and Cross River State by Centre LSD.

Spotlight Initiative is a joint European Union and United Nations global, multi-year initiative that spotlights and places emphasis and efforts to achieving gender equality and women’s empowerment in line with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (see https://www.spotlightinitiative.org/).

The statement urged members of the public to take more proactive actions to end all forms of violence against women and girls, beginning with their immediate communities.
