See More ResourcesThe African Centre for Leadership, Strategy and Development (Centre LSD) shall Thursday, November 5th, 2020, host male champions in Ikorodu and Yaba areas of Lagos to a symposium on eradicating violence and harmful traditional practices against women and girls in Lagos State.
The symposium, which will have youth leaders from community associations, religious bodies, traditional institutions and other key sectors of the society in attendance, will provide a platform to discuss the socio-cultural norms and other factors that pre-dispose women and girls to violence, abuse and denial of sexual and reproductive health and rights, and come up with strategies for eradicating them.
A statement signed by Mr. Vincent Dania, Senior Programme Officer of the Centre, stated that participants at the symposium will brainstorm on how to use their platforms in their various communities to ensure the implementation of the strategies for preventing and eradicating violence and harmful traditional practices against women and girls, and advocate for the achievement of gender equality and empowerment of women in line with the Sustainable Development Goal 5.
The symposium is part of activities in the implementation of the Male Engagement component of the Spotlight Initiative Project in Lagos State.
Spotlight Initiative is a joint European Union and United Nations global, multi-year initiative that spotlights and places emphasis and efforts to achieving gender equality and women’s empowerment in line with the Sustainable Development Agenda 2030 (see https://www.spotlightinitiative.org/).
Centre LSD is an Implementing Partner under UN Women on the Spotlight Initiative project in Nigeria.
