Centre LSD Convenes Strategic Meetings to Strengthen Local Government Accountability in Anambra State.

The African Centre for Leadership, Strategy and Development (Centre LSD), in partnership with the International Peace and Civic Responsibility Centre (IPCRC), will convene two strategic meetings as part of the ongoing implementation of the Strengthening Transparency, Accountability and Governance Process (STAGE 2) Project from February 3–4, 2026, in Awka, Anambra State.https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1CAr9UHKjJ/

In a statement, Mr. Itia Otabor, Director of Strategy at Centre LSD and Project Lead, noted that the project is designed to strengthen democratic governance in Anambra State by improving local government administration and encouraging broader citizen participation in electoral processes.

At its core, the initiative seeks to reinforce the role of local governments as the tier of government closest to the people, strengthen institutional capacity, and promote more inclusive and accountable governance practices.

The first meeting will be a capacity-building engagement for Chairmen of the twenty-one (21) Local Government Councils in Anambra State, alongside selected senior officials involved in local government administration.

Discussions will centre on strengthening local government systems to improve administration, accountability, and service delivery across the state.

The second meeting will bring together all Honourable Members of the Anambra State House of Assembly, with a focus on strengthening legislative oversight as a tool for improving local government administration. It will also provide space for practical conversations on how local government administration can be better implemented within the realities of Nigeria’s current constitutional and judicial framework.

The initiative is being implemented through a sub-grant from the Nigeria Civil Society Situation Room, with support from the British Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO).
