Day 1 of the Capacity Building for Women’s Rights Organizations on Engaging Male Allies

Day 1 of the Capacity Building for Women’s Rights Organizations on Engaging Male Allies took place yesterday in Abuja, setting a strong foundation for deep learning and collaboration. We opened with welcome remarks from the Executive Director of Centre LSD, Mr. Monday Osasah, who reaffirmed the organisation’s feminist values, commitment to accountability, and the importance of engaging men without reproducing harmful power dynamics.

This was followed by a charge from Centre LSD’s Founding Executive Director, Dr. Otive Igbuzor, who challenged participants to lean into honest not polite, conversations, reminding us that real change requires courage, truth-telling, and critical reflection.

Participants were then led through rich sessions by our facilitators - Erelu Bisi Adeleye-Fayemi, Dr. Ejiro Otive-Igbuzor, Ene Obi, and Ms. Ojobo Atuluku, unpacking power, patriarchy, risk, boundaries, and what accountable allyship truly demands.

The day was marked by thoughtful dialogue, respectful debate, and shared learning as we transitioned from principles to practice on Day 2.
