CENTRE LSD HOSTS CSOs AND THE MEDIA TO A DISCOURSE ON NATURAL RESOURCE GOVERNANCE IN NIGERIA
As part of effort to deepen natural resource governance discourse in Nigeria, the African Centre for Leadership, Strategy & Development, (Centre LSD), shall Wednesday hosts members of civil society and the media to a conversation on their roles in natural resource governance in the country.
The discourse, which is scheduled to hold in Abuja, the nation’s capital will amongst other things take a cursory look at the role of civil society and the media and how well they have played the roles, to chart a way forward.
A statement released by the Senior Programme Officer of the Centre, Mr. Amodu Lawal, said the discourse has become important to take forward the reforms initiated by the government including the quest to diversify into non-oil sources to shore up revenue generation in the country. According to him, “crude oil production and sale has been the major source of government revenue and now that the income is dwindling, it is important to focus attention on the solid mineral sector which has the potential to generate and up revenue”.
He added that bringing together civil society and the media at this time is indeed timeous to brainstorm on how best the duo can collaborate and participate effectively in their engagement of issues around the governance of natural resources in Nigeria.
He enjoined stakeholders in the mineral sector, concerned individuals and groups to link up and participate in the conversation via zoom and or #DoMiningRight.
